Clyde's Story

FROM THE FRONT LINES.  TO THE BACKWOODS.  TO FEDERAL PRISON.  TO YOU.
While Clyde was born in 1922, our story really begins in 1946.  It is then, as a Bronze Star & Purple Heart recipient, he decided to step outside the law to become a moonshiner by trade and a craftsman by heart.
Located in a small, rural community known as Rabbit Road in Union Springs, Alabama -  Clyde used  fresh Alabama spring water, the finest local grains and a hand-built, copper still to quickly become  the most prominent moonshiner in the state.

His vow to make the best, darn whiskey Alabama ever tasted, led him to spend 8 months in federal prison for doing so.   Those 8 months were the only time Clyde wasn’t making moonshine for the rest of his life.   His renegade spirit and commitment to craft is the reason why Clyde May’s is recognized at the Official State Spirit of Alabama.
Our whiskey carries the legacy of the man who invented it – Clyde May.

Our propriety recipe sets our whiskey apart from the rest and stays true to the spirit of Clyde May. Uncompromising. Authentic. Rebellious. Crafted
